Core Values

Let’s start by introducing ourselves… We are Donna (34) and Remco (33), dreamers and idealists at heart. For a long time we have fantasized about living in a residential community, but we could not find a place that propagated our own core values. Therefore, after years of dreaming, we decided to start our own community.

Respect for people, animals and nature is very important to us. Fortunately, we are not alone in this, yet we encounter few communities that dare to put this respect into practice. Even in most eco-villages residents eat cheese, eggs, fish, dairy and sometimes even meat. We want to try to make Anahata a modest example that you can also live a happy and fulfilling life without using animal products.

A concept that has no unambiguous meaning. Nevertheless, we want to try to merge the spiritual experience of the different residents in such a way that everyone can learn from each other, broaden his or her vision and experience as much meaning in life as possible.

We try to create a place where everyone feels free to share his or her own spirituality experience with each other, and to be open to someone else’s vision. We are all here to learn and what better way to do that than in a loving environment where you are allowed to be who you are and are genuinely interested in what the other person has to say?

Personal growth

In addition to an expanded way of thinking and increasing awareness, personal development is also a concept that cannot be ignored in a spiritual community. By bringing different personalities together, you can learn from each other faster and start to see your own learning points. If you are open to receiving constructive feedback and willing to work on your own downsides, in the end it’s you who will benefit the most. A gift that you can take with you for the rest of your life! 🙂

A last concept we value highly is your own individuality. You usually know best what you want and what is good for you. Others can be good advisers and bring you to new insights, but in the end it is you who decides about your life based on what your intuition tells you. That is why it is by no means our intention that someone presents himself as a “guru” or “wiser” than someone else.

Personal growth and awareness also include moments for yourself, in which you have nothing to do and you can go your own way. That is why every individual (or couple/family) in Anahata has their own little house or apartment in which you can retreat. If you do not like a planned group activity, you are free to say “no” and skip it. Of course, it is in that case appreciated if you are actively involved in the community in other ways. Initiatives or new proposals from the residents are greatly appreciated!

Anahata is a smoke and drug-free community.

Group activities and initiatives

Spiritual evenings and workshops

Once a week one of the residents organizes a spiritual evening around a topic of his choice. It can involve reading and discussing a spiritual or philosophical text, a workshop, giving a reading or interpretation of some kind, showing a video or documentary with a subsequent group discussion, etc. The evening ends with a guided group meditation.

In the future, facilities such as a bathhouse, yoga dome and guest accommodations (for instance yurts or stuga’s) will be realized to receive small groups of visitors for organizing multi-day retreats.

Vegetable garden

Currently, the site of almost four hectares consists mainly of trees, shrubs and wild grasses. Together with the residents we can convert part of this into a picking forest with wild mushrooms, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries.

In a communal vegetable garden other vegetables and herbs can be grown from spring 2021 onwards. The produce can be distributed through a fair use system or used for communal meals.
